Take advantage of the Northern Islands

As a concerned citizen of the CNMI, a proud Refalauwash, and someone born on Agrigan, I support the opportunity that we have been given by Azmar to use what God gave us on Pagan.

I am happy to hear of this chance for Azmar to be on Pagan that will give the Northern Islanders and all of us a lot of services, development and opportunities. I understand housing will be constructed, a church, water and electric provided, a medical dispensary and transportation—all at no cost for the Pagan residents. There will also be job opportunities for Northern Islanders and a big chance for people to start businesses up on Pagan when Azmar operations begin. This is a chance for all the Northern Islands to benefit from this business development.

If the taking of pozzalan will leave the island looking like it did before the eruption—and AZMAR has committed and provided assurances to replant and reclaim the areas where the pozzolan has been removed—why not give AZMAR a chance so that all of us would benefit?

This is a long-tern investment on the people of the Northern Islands and the CNMI that we cannot ignore like we have done so much in the past. Let’s not make the same mistakes and lose a great opportunity. This not just for Pagan or the Northern Islanders. It is for all of us here in the CNMI, for now and future generations.
