Over 80 students attend NMC orientation
Northern Marianas College president Antonio Deleon Guerrero, along with several faculty members and chairpersons of the various departments, welcomed over 80 students on Wednesday during their first day of orientation at the student center.
Dean for Student Development Kurt Barnes and officers of the Associated Students of NMC—president Jack Kiyoshi, vice president Agatha Ketebengang, secretary Nathan Algaier, and treasurer Jocelyn Tagabuel—also shared the privilege to welcome the students on campus.
The orientation included a digital slideshow presentation from the Office of Student Activities and Leadership, featuring annual events held at the college.
The students were toured around campus, including a visit to the NMC bookstore, counseling, career center, cantina, president’s office, library, office of admissions record and financial aid, student support services, TV and film studio, computer lab, and the gym.
Members of the Volunteers Club led the ROPES team building exercises, conducted by Ed Calvo at the gym.
“It was great; things went the way they were planned,” said Janet Santiago, volunteers club member.
The Phi Thetta Kappa officers presented the students with information about their club and introduced the officers. Representing the PTK were treasurer Randy Mendoza, vice president Tatiana Babauta, public relations secretary Lucy Henry, and membership secretary Leung See Cabrera.
Also included in the activity was the NMC student email sign-up so that students can be informed of activities and issues facing the college though their email account.
Larry Lee, acting department chair for the School of Business, and Ace Elameto provided entertainment during the barbeque get-together with faculty and students. The orientation ended yesterday.
“This was one of the best turnouts for orientation. We had over 80 students that attended the orientation on both days,” said Edwin Propst, director of Student Activities and Leadership. (Cassie DLG Fejeran)
