EICOT praised for cleanup efforts
The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council recently adopted a resolution commending the Environmental Interagency Cooperative Operation Team, saying the group’s cleanup efforts ensure a healthy, safe and clean environment on Saipan.
This comes in the wake of the selection of Benny K. Pangelinan as EICOT chair; Victorino S. Cepeda, vice chair; members Glenn Arriola, David B. Cepeda, Martin M. Sablan, Frank Sablan, Henry Bautista, Antonio T. Benavente, Critito Alepuyo, Mathias (Mac) Chargualaf, Frank Tudela and Daniel Camacho.
According to Resolution No. 8SMC-3RS-02, Article I, section 9 of the CNMI Constitution mandate that each person has the right to a clean and healthful public environment in all areas, including the land, air and water.
“The formulation of [EICOT] in August of 2002 with its mission is a positive step forward in attaining the constitutional requirement of a clean and healthy public environment,” part of the resolution reads.
Through its collective and collaborative partnership with non-profit organizations, EICOT managed to clean up the Garapan Hotel Street of its unsanitary and clogged drainage system.
Among the individuals who made this possible are MOVER president Chelita Romero; POWER’s Socarro Borja; Bicol president Lito Marquez; Kampil president Honorio Cambronero; and HANMI point-of-contact B.K. Park.
The group’s business partners are CTSI’s Rene Magalong; Pacific Trading’s Charles V. Cepeda; Duty Free Shoppers Ltd. president Marian Aldan-Pierce; Mobil Marianas public and government relations manager Cecile B. Suda; and Glimpses HANMI coordinator Jojo V. Dass.
EICOT, its associated non-profit organizations, and business partners are collectively working toward addressing other critical environmental concerns.
“The members of the municipal council join the people of Saipan in extending this special recognition, congratulation and commendation to EICOT…and all its members for a job well done,” the resolution adds.
The resolution was certified by municipal council chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalceio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
