Filipino in terroristic threat case deported
Considering him a danger to the community, authorities deported a Filipino who earlier faced terroristic threatening charges.
Records showed that Cristino Inbentan, 47, left the Commonwealth last Tuesday via Asiana Airlines, initially heading to South Korea.
CNMI chief prosecutor David Hutton said the Attorney General’s Office pushed for Inbentan’s deportation.
Superior court records showed that Inbentan was convicted of disturbing the peace pursuant to a plea agreement with the AGO.
Presiding Judge Robert Naraja imposed a suspended six-month prison term—except for 134 days of jail time already served—on Inbentan. The judge also placed Inbentan on six months probation.
In a judgment last May, Naraja also tasked Inbentan to perform 25 hours of community service and fined the defendant $100.
Inbentan had threatened to commit suicide or use his military skills as former bomb expert in the Philippines to create a terroristic incident on the islands. This reportedly happened in 2003, when he sent to a Superior Court judge a letter issuing the threats. (John Ravelo)
