There isn’t going to be any baseball played in Saipan for awhile with the less than friendly visit paid to the island by Supertyphoon Chaba, but that’s not affecting 14 of the CNMI’s youngest players and their coaches.

The Little League All-Stars from the CNMI will have just finished playing in their second game of the 2004 Little League World Series by the time the Tribune hits newsstands this morning.

The CNMI is one of four teams in Pool D, and they are currently sitting in fourth place at 0-1. There is a two-way tie for second, as Mexico and Saudi Arabia share identical records of 1-1. Atop the standings in first place is the representative from the Caribbean at 1-0.

The local hard-ballers enjoyed a day off before they faced the Mexican All-Stars of the Guadalupe Linda Vista Little League at 3am Saipan Local time.

Philip Manalo, Alex Benevente, Keith Kintol, Eli Augenbaugh, Ofero Taitano, Cameron Ser Nicolas, Eric Tenorio, David Camacho, Donovan George, Justin Alexander, Anthony Rogolifoi, Ike Aldan, R-Jay Joe, and Anthony Tenorio became the newest celebrities in the CNMI when they face the Mexican, as seen on ESPN 2 (channel 40 on KMCV) in the wee hours of this morning.

The CNMI will be return to the small screen when they revisit Lamade Stadium on Wednesday, Aug. 24, to take on Willemstad, Curacao of the Pabao Little League at 1am Saipan local time.

The semi-finals for the International Pool take place on Wednesday at 4pm and at the same time on Thursday.

The finals of the International Pool will to be played on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 3pm, with the winner advancing to the World Series Championship Game on Sunday, Aug. 29, at 6:30pm EST.

The Championship Game will be televised on ABC while the International Semi-finals and finals will be broadcast on ESPN.
