Three rounds down and two to go in the Point Break Series Challenge at the Pacific Islands Club, and the surfers are busting out more tricks on the Flow Rider than David Copperfield in Las Vegas.

Round Three of the Series got underway last Saturday, Aug. 14, and the action picked up right where it left off in the second round. This time, however, there were some new faces joining the list of mini-surfers.

Cal Ronan was again riding the flow in the Men’s 12-and-under, but this time he had a little competition from Shota Toda and Ryoya Ohata. Ohata racked up a 69 in his first outing of the competition, and Ronan continued his upward climb on the scoring scale by notching a three-round personal high 72. Toda trumped the trio of tricksters with a 75 to take the one-day title, but it is Ronan who leads the division with a three round total of 205.

There was nothing new in the Men’s 13-17 division, as once again the scoring was too close to call between Tirso “TJ” Adriatico and Wylie Paez. The duo tied for the second round in a row, busting out equal scores of 83 to take the daily title. Long-time trickster Fredo Paez also rode with the pair but fell just six points shy of first place with a 77.

Newcomers Micheal Nahoun and Junya Ohata went wave-for-wave in the same division to even up at a respectable 73 apiece in their first time out.

With three rounds in the tank, it’s TJ Adriatico in the lead with a combined score of 238, followed by Wylie Paez with a 231, and Fredo with a 215.

Adding a little beauty to the competition was the challenge’s only female, Keisha Paez. As the only entrant in the Women’s 13-17 division, Keisha matched her score from round two by staying consistent with a 71. She is now guaranteed a title championship regardless if a tour pro comes to the PIC, as she raised her three round point total to 209.

There was a mini-let down when neither of the entrants showed for the Mens’s 18-and-over. Jerald Domingo and Sung Ik “Crono” Lee pulled of some amazing tricks and demonstrated superior skills in their last outing.

If you haven’t been down to try the Flow Rider at the PIC, you are truly missing out. Riders can still compete on Saturday, Aug. 28, and Sept. 11.

There are singles, doubles and big trick competitions throughout the tri-month series that is sponsored in part by Coca Cola. Men and women will be grouped into age divisions 12-and-under, 13-17, 18-34, and 35-and-over, and as of press time, there are still some openings available.

To be a part of all of the action, venture down PIC information counter and pick up an entry form. It’s only $10 to enter one any one of the events, but $30 will grant you access to all five surf-off’s, special discounts, and PIC facility privileges.
