SSA postpones all games until next week
Now that the weather has calmed down a bit and the people of the CNMI have begun to reclaim what is left of the islands from an unwelcome visit from Supertyphoon Chaba, things will slowly but surely return to their normal schedule.
The Saipan Softball Association is no different, and SSA President Robert A. Guerrero announced that the 2004 Men’s Island Wide Fast Pitch and Slow Pitch Softball Leagues will resume play next Monday, weather permitting.
“We’ll resume regular league play on Monday if the weather is cooperative and the lights are ready to go,” said Guerrero.
Judging from the appearance of the softball field at the Oleai Sports Complex, there will be much to do between now and then before that first underhand pitch is thrown.
Currently the infield looks like a pond, the fence line along the third base side is twisted, the protective homerun netting is in disarray, and although they would make for a unique view for the spectators, it would be difficult to play with a section of the bleachers laying upside down in shallow centerfield.
If the sun continues to shine and the repairs can be completed in time, the teams regularly scheduled for this Monday evening, Aug. 30, will take the field in Oleai. At 6:30pm, the Island Wide Slow Pitch league resumes, as the Outlaws will take on Exclusive, followed by the Eliminators matching up against Team Juan Santiago at 7:30pm, and finally Fadang and Buddz will take the field at 8:30pm.
All of the high-octane action of the speed-ballers will take place every Tuesday and Thursday night at the diamond in Oleai, and next week will also feature the teams regularly scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 31. At 6:30pm, the Island Wide Fast Pitch League resumes when Seabees Four squares off against the Islanders, while Verizon will face Proa in the 8pm game.
