Clarification

With reference to the news article that appeared on page 9 of the Aug. 27 issue of the Marians Variety about the signature campaign of the Decade group, for the grant by the U.S. Congress of permanent residency to foreign workers who have been in the CNMI for at least 10 years, and in which purportedly a collection fee of $100 as logistics fee is involved, the Philippine Consulate would like to go on record that it has no connection to this movement, let alone sanctions the collection of a fee to bring this initiative forward.

While the Philippine Consulate wishes the initiative well as part of the democratic tradition of peaceful petition, it would like to inform the general public that Decade is a purely private initiative and that none of the Consulate’s officers and staff, including those of its attached office (POLO, OWWA, and Pag-IBIG) are in any way affiliated with or actively involved in the prosecution of this initiative in consideration for the payment of a fee.

This clarification is made for the information and guidance of those concerned and the general public as well so that they may take the proper course of action as appropriate according to their best judgment.

Wilfredo DL. Maximo
Philippine Consul General
