NMITFF schools fall relay pushed back
The Northern Marianas Track and Field Federation recently disclosed that its first All Schools Fall Island Relay has been pushed back and is rescheduled to unfold on Sept. 18.
It was originally scheduled to take place last Saturday, Aug. 28.
According to NMITFF officials, the move was agreed upon by its board to allow schools more time to prepare for the event. Majority of public schools were used as shelters during and after the untimely visit by Supertyphoon Chaba, forcing classes to cease for about a week. With classes resuming this week, the rescheduling should allow schools sufficient time to organize teams.
The non-profit organization also indicated that the event would feature four categories for both the boys and girls divisions.
Schools may form teams for both division in the 9-and-under, 11-and-under-14-and-under, and 18-and-under age groups.
Teams possibly comprised of five students will begin their push to reign supreme at the American Memorial Park. The number of students per team, however, has yet to be confirmed.
Each member will run a mile at a time, switching off with another team member when the said distance has been completed.
Teams will continue switching off until its final member completes the final leg of the race at the newly built Oleai Sports Complex built track and field facility.
Each team is required to have a designated vehicle that would follow the team from the starting point to the track oval. The vehicle would also serve to pick up and drop runners at switch-off points throughout the race.
The NMITFF board will hold a meeting sometime soon to discuss the start time of the race and other elements of the event as well.

Meanwhile, the NMITFF will also hold its next monthly NMITFF track meet on September 25.
Dubbed the Oceania Open and Under 18 qualifying trials, the meet also serves as an opportunity for athletes to qualify and represent the Commonwealth at the Oceania Open and Under 18 Area Championships in Australia later in the year.
The Oceania championships is scheduled to take place in Townsville-Thuringowa, Australia from December 16-18.
