More than 80 nonresident workers employed by Saipan Garment Manufacturers Association member-companies may now be able to provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation in times of emergency following day-long training sessions on how it’s done at the SGMA offices late last week.

The training, done in Mandarin, was an extension of the Northern Marianas Alliance for Safety and Health’s Governor’s 2nd Annual Health and Safety Conference, held August 17-21 at the Saipan Dai-Ichi Hotel.

Similar sessions were held during the conference, and were done in Tagalog for Filipino nonresident workers, and English.

“It’s all part of our continuing commitment to ensure a safe workplace for the employees. Training them on how to give CPR and basic first aid training would go a long way as they will take whatever they learned from this session to wherever they’ll be in the future,” said SGMA executive director Richard Pierce.

SGMA is a founding member of the Alliance.
