The annual Roll-off of the best bowlers in the Philippine Bowling Association is about to get underway, as the top 12 alley aces and their alternates will let the good times roll this weekend at the Saipan Bowling Center to determine the 2004 Bowler of the Year.

The tournament was originally scheduled for last weekend, but due to the unwelcome visit of Supertyphoon Chaba, organizers were forced to push back the date until Sunday, Sept. 5.

This year’s cast of characters will look to unseat defending champion Robert Talavera, who eliminated Rusty Musca in the winner-take-all second game at the same venue.

Names familiar throughout the league will once again compete for the pinnacle of PBA bowling, and many of the competitors are returning to the big dance.

Mike Guirey, Mark Halstead, Paul Pangelinan, Dannie Robles, Jonathan Eparwa, Ross Zapatna, Ronald Epan, Edgar Talavera, Raymond Angeles, Alex Cacdac, and Raymond Zapatna all qualified for the annual event by being named Bowler of the Month.

Now they are all looking for an upgrade in title, bragging rights, and to take home the $1,000 prize for first place. Last year Talavera became $1,000 richer, while Musca took home $700, Halstead bowled his way to third, pocketing $375.

The pin punishers placing from first through tenth stand to walk away with money prizes during the annual PBA banquet, but the date and venue of awards night will be announced later. Guests of PBA members will be charged a reasonable amount for the cost of the dinner.
