Shag made an impressive showing as action in the World Organized Rocball Interscholastic and Community League returned, scoring consecutive victories over defending champion Ghasias Brothers in practice round last Friday evening at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

In the curtain raiser, Shag opened the match on a high note, taking the first set 15-13 and the second 17-6 for a 32-19 advantage.

The defending champions, however, proved to be no pushovers and retaliated with a 19-13 win in the third set to cut the deficit to 7 points, 38-45.

Determined to force o-kon—Rocball term for extra set—the Brothers continued to pound away against the team they eliminated in last year’s semifinals and stayed alive with an 18-6 win.

The tables turned on them in O-kon as Shag regrouped and worked their way to victory with a 10-4 overtime win.

Shag’s Lysander Taisakan was the game’s heavy hitter after knocking in 5 goals for 15 points.

In the second match, Shag put up just enough points on their corner to outlast a late charge by the Brothers for a 51-46 win.

With momentum from the previous game, Shag tortured their opponents en route to a lopsided 17-1 win in the first set.

The Brothers, however, would fight back in the next set and pulled out a 16-9 win, but Shag immediately bounced back in the third for a 16-8 win.

Desperate not to leave with nothing on hand, the Brothers dug deep into their pockets and began to swing momentum back to their corner.

They would eventually take the set, 21-9, but fell quite a bit short in the overall score.

Last year, the Brothers made their third consecutive trip to the championship—they lost in the first two—and stunned the Rocball world by beating heavy favorite Hardkor.

The team looks to successfully defend its title behind high-flyer Fred Prelisamen and brothers Jacob and Ben, among others.

Shag, for its part, also comes in with a strong line up that includes Taisakan, Myron Laniyo, Shaun Odoshi, and Kashi Kukkun.

The practice round is expected to continue until the third week of this month as sport founder James Feger indicated that the regular season will begin then.

Interested teams may contact Feger at 664-3810 or 288-8722 to register.
