August car sales up 77 percent
The release of the 2002 rebates partly boosted vehicle sales in the CNMI last month, resulting in 77.89 percent growth rate compared with the same month last year, according to data obtained from the Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association.
CADA’s August 2004 report showed that 169 vehicles were sold last month. During the same month last year, the total sale was only 95.
CADA president Joe Guerrero said that the impressive sale increase can be attributed to various factors such as the release of rebates and refunds, good deals from dealers, and the availability of low financing or low bank loan interests, and low down payment car loans.
“It’s a combination of these factors. Dealers have great sales too. They’ve began their clearance sales as new models for 2005 would be coming in,” he said.
Based on the data, there were 84 cars sold, 50 trucks, 11 vans, and 24 sports utility vehicles.
Joeten Motors registered the highest number of sold vehicles at 72. Microl had 60 and Triple J Motors sold 37 last month.
Overall, Microl topped sales this year with 513 vehicles sold, followed by Joeten Motors with 301, and Triple J Motors with 233.
Microl registered a 58.82-percent sales growth compared with last year’s, Joeten had a 34.98-percent increase, and Triple J Motors had 20.73 percent.
As for car brands, data showed that most people bought Toyota (30), followed by Honda (21), Nissan (9) and Kia (9), Mazda (8), Mitsubishi (4), and Hyundai (3).
Truck users preferred Toyota (20), Ford (12), Mazda (10), and Nissan (8).
During the month, five Toyota vans were sold, four Mazda, and two Ford vans.
For SUVs, Toyota, Honda, and Mitsubishi sold five each, Nissan had three, Kia and Suzuki had two each, while Ford and Hyundai sold one each.
To date, 579 cars, 188 trucks, 80 vans, and 200 SUVs have been sold this year.
