Army specialist Roy R. Macaranas honored

U.S. Army Specialist Roy Tasi Rogopes Macaranas was recently honored with the adoption by the 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council of a resolution commending him “for his courage, bravery and determination to uphold the U.S. Armed Forces’ goal to secure peace freedom and democracy in Iraq.”

According to the resolution, Macaranas was deployed to Iraq on Aug. 3, 2004 for a one-year tour of duty. While in Iraq, Macaranas served in the small arms repair unit of the U.S. Army 2nd Brigade 2D Infantry Division Unit 15056. Macaranas is the son of William Iglecias Macaranas and Susana Rogopes Macaranas.

The resolution concluded by saying that the members of the Municipal Council join the people of the CNMI in extending special recognition, congratulation and commendation to Macaranas for safeguarding and protecting the lives of his fellow Americans.

The resolution was certified by municipal council chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
