Babauta IS education governor

I’m not interested in politics but I am interested in education and the author of the letter about Governor Babauta not being an education governor couldn’t be farther from the truth if they were living on the North Pole. Governor Babauta has showed more interest in education than any governor in the past decade. His Education Initiative was the first of its kind in the CNMI and he would have been even more affective had our Board of Education not been so arrogant and had chosen to work with the Governor rather than opposing his every attempt to help. The Governor even offered money to Education that was refused by the Board.

I will be the first to say the Governor has made some mistakes, but haven’t we all? But I’m also sure he has learned from his mistakes. But to accuse him about the problems after the typhoon is ridiculous, especially with the appearance of a pre-election smear campaign. They could have at least waited until the right time for that kind of political mess.

The three typhoons caused the damage and the governor’s job was to get us relief and to make sure people had a place to stay. The delay at MHS was not the governor’s fault but the typhoons’. There are several government agencies that are responsible for taking care of the “storm refugees” and they did. We have always used schools for this purpose, so why the complaints now? The only logical answer that comes to mind given the wording of the mixed-up letter is that it was simply political smear tactics on the eve of the Governor’s announcement to run for office again because Governor Babauta is certainly an education governor and the best we have had when it comes to education.
