Lady bowler Michelle Bondoc bowled the most pins in the ladies division of last month’s Pepsi King of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament held on Aug. 29 and 30 at the Capital Bowling Center.

Bondoc knocked down a total of 689 pins in four games to finish with an average of 172.25. She fired her tourney-best 179 in her first game but struggled with a 157 in her second. She then matched her first game total of 179 in the third before closing out the tourney with a 174.

The August women’s champion was a mere 6 pins ahead of veteran kegler and former May Masters women’s champ Emi Williams, who came away the following day with a total of 683 and 190.75 average. Williams improved her score after every game. She began with a 155 in the first game then rolled a 167 and a 171 in the next two. Williams worked doubletime in the fourth game but despite bowling a 190 it was not enough to catch Bondoc.

Lynn Teregeyo cornered the third spot after rolling a score of 649 and averaging 162.25 in the four-game competition. She led the way with pinfalls of 170 and 179 in her first two games last Aug. 30 but collapsed in the final two games with scores of 152 and 148.

Bondoc won a cash reward of $50 for winning the August tourney. Williams and Teregeyo also pocketed $25 and $15, respectively, for their runner-up finishes.

Fourth and fifth place went to Cora Muna and Ron Cal, who finished just 2 pins of one another with 615 and 613 pinfalls. Elena Soll (600), Malou Cabigao (594), Carol McKenzie (561), and Diane Babauta (544) closed out the competition among the women in the August event.

The August Pepsi King of the Lanes Tournament attracted a total of 69 entries. The monthly bowling competition is organized by the Saipan Bowling Association and is sponsored by Pacific Trading Co. It will culminate with a season-ending championship tournament in January.
