Another local high school student was recognized for his efforts in pursuing academic excellence.

Daniel A. Quitugua was recently nominated and selected to have his biography featured in the 2003/2004 edition of the Who’s Who Among American High School Students. He now enters a class that makes up less than 5 percent of nationwide students who qualify for one of 200 scholarships totaling $202,000.

So far, over $3.6 million have been awarded through the program, according to National Academic Affairs chair Parke H. Davis, who wrote the letter sent to Quitugua informing him of his inclusion on the list.

In the letter, Davis commended Quitugua for being considered for the honors.

Students can only be nominated through a guidance counselor, making the endorsement memorable.

The letters also indicated that Quitugua’s achievements will be made known nationwide as the publication will be distributed to approximately 11,000 colleges, high schools, libraries, and youth organizations.

Quitugua is also eligible to use the College Referral Service, which informs selected colleges and universities of their achievements.

“Recent surveys indicate that 95 percent of responding college admission directors use the CRS to recruit students for admission,” Davis said. “Each year, over 100,000 referrals are made for Who’s Who students.”
