The CNMI House of Representatives paid tribute to Micronesian businessman Edward John McDonald Calvo, who passed away in California last Sept. 14.

The House adopted House Resolution 14-80 to honor Calvo for his contributions to the Commonwealth and to express sympathy to the trader’s family and relatives.

“Mr. Calvo had strong ties with the CNMI,” the resolution states. “[He] and his business partners have been major supporters of the CNMI by making generous contributions during times of disasters and hardship, fiestas, sports and other community events.”

The resolution recognized Calvo’s contribution through his business interests in the CNMI, which include the Bank of Saipan, Calvo’s Insurance, and Pacific Trading Co.

The resolution also depicted Calvo as a statesman, noting that the trader served as senator with the 14th Guam Legislature.

Calvo died in Palo Alto, California at age 68. Calvo is survived by his wife Frances, children, and other relatives.
