MHS falls to Southern, 36-0
After the men of the Commonwealth Football League left the CPA Airport field this past Sunday, the young men and women of Saipan Southern High School and Marianas High School strapped on the tethers for the start of the 2005 MISA Flag Football League in front of a crowd of appreciative fans.
Just about all of the people who came out to watch the CFL match up between the Shell Chiefs and the Miller Barbarians stuck around to watch the aspiring athletes play a fast-paced game of flag football.
Also in attendance were several of the players, including Saipan Southern coaches/Shell Chiefs’ players Jered Lutu and Danny Punimata. While the Southern dominated the Dolphins 36-0, the high-speed game thrilled the crowd—especially on the Southern sidelines.
MHS coach Nick Gross said that his team took a beating in the first week, and though his squad of iron-men consisted of just 12, he made no excuses. The good news for Gross and the Dolphins is that they picked up a couple of new players since the defeat, and with them comes more opportunities to rest his dozen troops.
Upon wet grass and under gray skies, Gross was at it again with his team working on passes, reflexes, and agility in preparation for this weekend’s match up.
This Saturday, Oct. 16, the defending champions from the 2004 MISA Flag Football League will make the trip from Kagman High School to the CPA Airport field where they will take on the MHS Dolphins immediately following the CFL match up.
That same day the squad from Saipan Southern High School returns to action across the Marianas Trench when they square off against Tinian High School at 11:30am.
