Cohen vows more assistance to NMC’s film and TV department
U.S. Department of the Interior deputy assistant secretary David Cohen vowed yesterday to continue facilitating connections between the private sector and the Northern Marianas College film and TV department.
Cohen, following a tour of the NMC FilmTV department, said he was “impressed by what I saw.”
College officials showed Cohen the facilities available for FilmTV students, as well as filmmakers who may be interested in using the Northern Marianas as a shooting location. These facilities include production and post-production studios, a recording studio, sound stage, sound and video booth, prop building shop, and a foley stage.
Cohen was also shown a portion of a World War II documentary that the NMC FilmTV department is working on.
“I am basically here to listen and learn. We talked about the potential to have post-production facilities, and a greater film industry [in the CNMI],” Cohen said in an interview.
He noted that some of the FilmTV officials attended the business conference in Los Angeles and they are pursuing opportunities based on connections that they made at the conference.
Cohen’s discussions with the college officials also involved the grants previously provided by the U.S. Interior Department and the possibility of more grants being issued to the NMC FilmTV Department.
