The Saipan campus of the Northern Marianas College will celebrate Arbor Day today, Oct. 29, at 10 am. The celebration will be next to the Saipan Upward Bound Office, also known as “Building I”. This is the hill on the side of the campus closest to the stoplight at Chalan Monsignor Guerrero.

Arbor Day is a yearly event that began in 1872 to encourage everyone to plant at least one tree to improve the environment. The key tree NMC staff will be encouraging CNMI residents to plant is “Da’ok,” a traditional Micronesia tree that produces excellent shade and a sturdy tree. NMC staff is promoting extraction for export of natural medicinal oil from nuts of the Da’ok tree.
