Investor wanted for honey processing business
A California-based company is interested in setting up a honey processing facility on Saipan, but needs a businessman to invest in the project, according to the Northern Marianas College-Cooperative Research, Extension and Education Services.
Acting NMC-CREES associate director Edgar Cocker said Bennett’s Honey Farm is willing to provide technical advice, set up the processing facility, and assist in marketing the honey products.
“It takes a year to set up a beehive, before you actually start harvesting. It’s quite a complicated process. Bennett’s is offering their expertise to process and separate micro-nutrients, and protect the honey from insecticide contamination,” Cocker said.
However, the firm needs a partner who would be willing to make an initial investment of about $25,000 into the business.
“Bennett’s has done business in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Hawaii, Tonga, and Fiji. They are interested in processing honey here because we are very close to big markets of honey products—China, Korea and Japan. Also, we are very close to skilled labor,” Cocker said.
According to the company’s website, Ann and Red Bennett have been in the business of beekeeping and honey packing since 1978.
“Our Honey Farm has a reputation as the premier connection for quality honey in the entire Southern California region. The honey we produce is of the finest quality available. It’s naturally delicious, with nothing taken away from, nor added to its already wonderful nature,” the website said.
