Do the Rota Blue tomorrow
In the wee hours of tomorrow morning, the 11th Annual Rota Blue Triathlon returns to the road and shores of the southern most island of the CNMI, thanks to the hard work and efforts of the Marianas Visitors Authority, Rota Resort & Country Club, the Rota Mayor’s Office, and KFC Triathlon Japan.
At 6:30am, triathletes from around the region, who have traveled to the capital of eco-tourism to partake in the popular sports classic, will face the rigors of an endurance challenge amidst the beauty of a tropical island.
This year’s edition of the Blue consists of two separate events—both including a unique swim, bike, and run course. The Type A course requires that participants swim 1.5 kilometers, bike the distance of 40km, and run 10km to complete the course. For those looking to get more of a workout, there will also be a Type B, which will be a 2.0km swim, a 90km bike course, and a 21km run.
The starting point for both courses are the same, as the participants will be gins at the entrance of the Rota Airport and complete their multi-sport activity at the Roundhouse.
Before any of the entrants take their first step into the water, they will have to attend the event briefing that will take place poolside this evening at the Rota Resort & Country Club at 6:30pm. Following the race, there will be an awards banquet at the Rota Roundhouse.
According to Kiyokazu Onishi of the Kiyokazu Fitness Club (KFC) of Japan, this year’s triathlon has attracted the attention of the presidents and owners of several of the top-ranking corporations from the Japanese business world, but they won’t be visiting the island alone.
According to the MVA, there are 107 registered entrants from Japan, Guam, and the CNMI, and interested individuals will have the opportunity to enter the endurance challenge up until the race.
Interested participants need only complete the registration form at the MVA office in San Jose and pay the $90 entry fee.
