Council lauds Emmanuel boat
Guam’s Emmanuel boat captain Mike James and anglers Glen Guerrero, Frank James and George Arriola were recently recognized for capturing first place, skipjack category, at the 20th annual Saipan International Fishing Tournament held in September this year.
The group was presented a resolution recently adopted by the 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council.
The international fishing tournament finally kicked-off on Sept. 11, at Saipan Smiling Cove Marina after being postponed due to Supertyphoon Chaba. Ninety-four boats from Palau, Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan participated in the challenge to catch the winning prizes in each category before the time deadline on Sept. 12, 2004.
Danny Agulto’s record in the bill fish category in 1997 at 624.43 lbs, and James Taitano’s record in the yellowfin category in 1990 at106 lbs remained the standing records to break.
Guam Charlie Cat boat captain Dr. Hoa Van Nguyen and anglers Jesus Curo and Quane Ly caught a monster marlin at 519.40 lbs; and Grand V’s boat captain Ray Dela Cruz and anglers Joe Guerrero and Joe Reyes caught the biggest/heaviest yellowfin at 55.07 lbs.
Emmanuel boat captain Mike James and his anglers Glen Guerrero, Frank James and George Arriola received the Yamaha Cup plus $1,000 for placing first in the skipjack category.
“The members of the municipal council and the people of the CNMI join Mr. John M. San Nicolas, president, and Saipan Fishing Association members in extending special recognition, congratulation and commendation to [Emmanuel boat team]…and wish them the best as they prepare for the 21st Annual Saipan International Fishing Tournament,” part of the resolution reads.
The resolution was certified by chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
