A law firm sued a company to compel payment of debt amounting to about $70,000.

Lawyer Michael Dotts, on behalf of his law firm O’Connor, Berman, Dotts and Banes, filed a civil action against Mariana Fashions Inc. at the Superior Court.

Dotts said the company executed a promissory note with a principal amount of $78,093.46 on June 24, 2004.

The amount plus interest was to be repaid to the law firm through consecutive monthly installments, Dotts said.

After its third installment payment last Sept. 16, Mariana Fashions stopped making further payments, Dotts claimed. Mariana Fashions thus defaulted on its payment, the lawyer said.

Dotts said the company now owes the law firm some $66,654.27. He asked the court to award the law firm an additional $4,082.71 in attorney’s fees for filing the lawsuit.
