CPA to equip airport with multi-user terminal equipment
The Commonwealth Ports Authority will be installing new airport equipment that would allow common use of check-in counters and terminal gates—a move expected to expedite the processing of departing passengers at the airport.
With the Multi-User System Environment, airline staff will be able to use their respective systems and access their data on any workstation throughout the airport whenever they need to serve passengers, said CPA executive director Carlos Salas.
Currently, each airline has its own check-in counter and terminal gate. As a result, congestion occurs at one area while the rest of the facilities are left idle.
“The MUSE system will provide greater efficiency and maximize utilization of the terminal facilities. It will also help us prepare for introduction of additional flights,” Salas said.
The new equipment will be installed with the approval of most of the airlines operating at the Saipan International Airport.
Airlines who have expressed support for the project are Continental Airlines, Japan Airlines, and China Southern Air.
Northwest Airlines expressed reservations about the installation of the new equipment, citing that they had invested in a system of their own barely three years ago.
Asiana Airlines has not given any official support or opposition. (Agnes E. Donato)
