Palau group donates to public library
The Oreor Club of Saipan handed over a check worth $250 Thursday afternoon to the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library.
Present during the presentation of the check was Joeten-Kiyu director Kevin Lathan and his staff, together with the Palauan organization’s president, Johnviany Tutiy, and vice president Eisio Blesoch.
Lathan thanked the Oreor Club of Saipan’s gesture by awarding a certificate of appreciation to Tutiy.
“They deserve it because every year they have always been generous,” said Lathan, “We really appreciate what they do and support the library.”
The president of the club in turn thanked Joeten-Kiyu for the plaque.
The library will add the donation to their acquisition of textbooks and other related library materials as needed by the children and the community.
The group also assured Joeten-Kiyu of its continuous assistance to the institution to fulfill one of its goals—to help children and students understand that reading books is essential to learning.
“This is for the library to buy books and use it for whatever the kids want to read in the library,” said Blesoch
The organization plans to increase its donation next year if economic conditions improve. Last year the group also donated $250 to the public library.
Oreor Club of Saipan derived its name from the ancient name of Koror, the capital city of Palau. They have about 50 active members on Saipan.
