With the coming of the New Year, Mark Pangelinan will look back fondly at 2004, especially after hoisting the championship of the Amigos Golf Club Ace of Aces Tournament held Dec. 3-5 at the Rota Golf Resort.

Pangelinan bested 11 other qualifiers in the association’s yearly championship following a superb four-under 68 performance. Rudy Sablan came within a shot of displacing Pangelinan from his lofty perch but had to settle for second place with his three-under 69 net score. He, however, got a consolation of sorts after bagging the 2004 Club Champion trophy.

Annie Pickelsimer actually tied the Hafa Adai Beach Hotel purchasing manager with her net score of 69 but had to take a back seat after losing in a scorecard tiebreak to Sablan. Joe Tudela garnered fourth place with his two-under 70, while Jon Tenorio round up the three-day golf fest’s Top 5 with his one-under 71.

The rest of the tournament’s Top 11, with their scores in parenthesis, are as follows: Rosie Pangelinan (72); Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho (76); Joe Lizama (76); Dave Jones (78); Manny Tenorio (82); and Frank Pickelsimer (83). Monthly winner Ed Reyes was not able to compete after failing to arrive on Rota. In all, a total of 17 players showed up for the tournament.

The Amigos Golf Club also gave away other prizes to players that made the most pars, most bogeys, most triples, and closest to the pin.

Players also held a non-ace competition during the three days of golf under the sun and fellowship among golf course buddies with Ben Jones taking first, Ed Manglona second, Ben Lizama third, Syl Ada fourth, Sherly Jones fifth, and Terry Attao sixth. All players in the informal contest also received monetary prizes.

After the Amigos Golf Club Ace of Aces Tournament, Peter Hocog and his family generously hosted an impromptu awards banquet for the winners and the players at their residence in Songsong Village.

Amigos Golf Club would like to extend their appreciation to the people of Rota, who hosted them during the three-day golf tournament. Special thanks also go to the Hocog family for their kindness and hospitality.
