Tourist missing, believed drowned
Police have launched a search for a Chinese tourist missing and believed to have drowned off Hidden Beach Sunday.
The 25-year-old male tourist was part of a group that visited Hidden Beach, located at the north side of Kingfisher Golf Course in Talafofo, to do some sightseeing on Sunday afternoon.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David said the group went to the beach with a tour guide, Lu Yong Jian.
At the beach, the guide left the tourists for a while to walk along the cliff line, with the victim following him. Then, a big wave came and swept the victim to sea.
Lu Yong Jian sustained cuts to his palms and legs in his efforts to hold on to the rocks and not get swept away. He was brought to the Commonwealth Health Center for treatment.
The tourist, however, has yet to be recovered as of Monday afternoon.
David said officers from the Boating Safety Section’s Dive Rescue Team and Search and Rescue Unit have been searching for the victim since 6am yesterday.
He said Lu Yong Jian will be questioned immediately after the victim is found. The identity of the victim will be revealed when his next of kin has been informed of the incident, David added.
