Police have found no trace of a Chinese tourist who went missing and believed to have drowned off Hidden Beach over the weekend.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David said boating safety officers will continue search operations until Sunday, a week from the day 25-year-old Yong Li was swept to sea by a big wave at the beach.

“The divers and other members of the search and rescue team will keep [searching] for seven days, whenever the weather permits. If they don’t find anything, then they will call the search off,” David said.

Yong Li was sightseeing with a group of Chinese tourists and tour guide Lu Yong Jian at Hidden Beach, located at the north side of Kingfisher Golf Links in Talafofo, when he went missing.

At the beach, the guide and Yong Li were walking along the cliff line and a big wave came and dragged the victim to sea.

Lu Yong Jian sustained cuts to his palms and legs in his efforts to hold on to the rocks and not get swept away. He was brought to the Commonwealth Health Center for treatment.

The tourist, however, has not been seen since Sunday afternoon.

Conducting the search operations are the Dive Rescue Team and Search and Rescue Unit of the DPS Boating Safety Section.
