CNMI’s Teacher of the Year to fly to DC, meet 55 others

CNMI Teacher of the Year Lavena C. Babauta will fly to Dallas, Texas on Jan. 19 in line with the preliminary activities that will honTeacher of the Year awardees from 50 states and five territories

The weeklong conference will give the teachers a chance to know one another, and meet the four finalists for the national Teacher of the Year award.

In April 2005, one will be selected and honored as national Teacher of the Year. Out of the 55 teacher awardees, the committee will narrow it down to four finalists and these four will be officially announced during the conference. Awarding of the national Teacher of the Year will be held in Washington, DC.

“Quite a learning experience for myself,” said Babauta about her trip next week.

“What I hope to get from there is what I can do as a teacher professionally and just come back and work with colleagues,” she added confirming her plans of transferring the experience to her co-teachers.

Babauta has been a teacher for 14 years already.

She shares her TOY award this year with her husband and two kids.

“I guess for professional enhancement for myself and personal, it’s an honor representing the CNMI,” was all she could say about her being chosen as the NMI’s representative to the conference. “It’s an honor for me. I enjoy teaching and teaching is a passion for me,” she said. (Marconi Calindas)
