Little League gets new officers
Though there are still a few weeks before any of the players will take the field at the Oleai Sports Complex for a regular season game, the Saipan Little League Association underwent some changes over the weekend, as several members of the board of directors had their seats up for election.
The biggest change from last Saturday’s meeting and election was the return of a familiar face to the top spot in league operations, as Joe Salas was voted back into the presidency. He served as head of the association during the 2003 season.
Joining him at the table are league vice-president Jess Wabol, secretary Peding Tenorio, treasurer Annie Flores, player agent Bob Magofna, safety officer Jack Reyes, umpire consultant Manny Tenorio, statistician Mike Borja, and manager’s representative Norma Quitigua.
Following in the footsteps of the successful campaign of the league under the leadership of 2004 president Joseph Borja will be a daunting task, but Salas has held the position in the past and believes that he can carry out his duties in the best interest of the children in the league.
The first league meeting under the new leadership will be open to the general membership, with an invitation to District Administrator James Ada, this Thursday, Jan. 20 in the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium at 6pm.
