The Lost Boyz proved that they have no worries when it came to No Fear on Thursday night, as they extended their unbeaten streak to eight games in continuing action of the Island Wide Volleyball League.

Plenty of fans packed the stands of the Gilbert C. Ada gymnasium to witness the clash of the two top teams in the men’s division, and they were thrilled by three sets of high caliber volleyball that looked a lot closer than it actually was.

The Lost Boyz rode the wave of momentum through the first set, as the muscle of their starting unit of Freddy Pelisamen, Nan Intharaluk, Joe Mettao, and Nick Castro overwhelmed No Fear (6-2) with eight kills, and an eight point serving spree by Pelisamen.

The Lost Boyz played it safe in the second set by resting their front line players in lieu of their capable back-ups, but the second stringers dug themselves into a hole early and never escaped.

Feeling the heat of an impending two-set sweep, Gabriel White and Taula Peter teamed up to provide No Fear with the necessary firepower to even the match at a set apiece. Their teammates rallied by their side and combined to hand deliver three kills and a pair of aces to the Lost Boyz en route to a 25-14 shellacking.

The win took its toll on the fearless players, as they ran out of steam during the deciding third set, and fell victim to the Lost Boyz 15-11.

Unfortunately, the other match up in the men’s division didn’t provide the same type of excitement, as the NMC Proa (3-4) failed to field a team against the Ol’ Aces (2-5) due to what officials at the scoring table termed as a schedule related issue.

They lack of action on the North court meant that everyone’s attention was focused upon the women’s action on the South court, as the Dragons dispatched Bootylicious in straight sets, 25-20 and 25-14.

Andrea Hofschneider, Trishia Catalla, Stephanie Arnold, Jazmine Anastacio, Aleta Glaze, and Rika Matsumoto faced a fiery Bootylicious (4-6) team that was aiming to knock off their second place squad to even their record, and fell victim in close first set, 25-20.

The Dragons (7-1) refused to go down as easily in the second set, and refocused their efforts to whomp Bootylicious 25-14 to even the set count at one apiece. Following a brief break in the action, the Dragons returned to south court for the start of the third and final set with a renewed sense of purpose.

With both teams struggling to find their rhythm, and the score tied at four points apiece, Glaze began a streak of seven consecutive serves with three aces to get her team rolling to an 11-4 lead.

Bootylicious fought hard to climb back into the game, but ultimately fell to the Dragons in the clincher by a score of 15-10.

One of the biggest shocks of the night was delivered to the first place Pikan Gaga (8-1), who found themselves fighting for their top spot in the rankings when they faced a stubborn last place Haz Been (1-7).

After smoking the cellar dwellers in the first set 25-19, Pikan Gaga had the tables reversed in the second, and was on the losing end of a 25-16 session that tied the game at a set apiece.

Following the wake-up call, Connie Camacho, Percy Torres, Vanessa Mobel and company finished off Haz Been 15-9.
