Continental employees contribute more than $12K for tsunami relief
HAGATNA, Guam—In a generous outpouring of support, Continental Micronesia employees have raised more than $12,000 for tsunami relief efforts. The money will be donated to the American Red Cross and the IDEP Foundation, a non-profit, non-government organization based in Bali, Indonesia.
The fund drive was initiated by a group of Continental employees led by senior financial analyst Carlos Halehale, who expressed a desire to aid in the recovery efforts, said CMI staff vice president of sales and marketing Walter B. Dias. “Living in this part of the world, we’re no strangers to natural disasters. Continental co-workers were eager to help the survivors rebuild,” said Dias.
The drive lasted two weeks, and Continental employees across the Asia-Pacific region from Japan to Honolulu to the Micronesian islands contributed. In addition to personal donations, one department held a bake sale and another sold lunch plates to raise additional funds for the drive. Also, employees of code-share partner Cape Air and Whole Health Management, which operates the CMI Family Medical Center on Guam, donated to the cause.
Continental announced the donation to the IDEP Foundation at a meeting in Bali last week. Continental’s Bali Station Manager Dara Mustika said, “Both as an Indonesian and as a person with direct family roots in Aceh, the gift collected directly from the personal funds of my fellow workers at the airline makes me so very proud to be privileged to work each day among such caring and concerned colleagues.”
Continental Micronesia is headquartered on Guam and operates a Pacific hub from the A.B. Won Pat Guam International Airport. A wholly owned subsidiary of Continental Airlines, Continental Micronesia offers more than 290 departures each week between 22 cities throughout the Pacific Rim, the Micronesian Islands and Hawaii with a fleet of 13 next-generation Boeing 737 narrowbody and 767 widebody aircraft. In addition, Continental Micronesia and its code share partner Cape Air operate commuter service between Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands.
