OPA analyst is NMI’s 1st Certified Internal Auditor
Office of the Public Auditor analyst Kimberly Mendiola has been named Certified Internal Auditor by the Institute of Internal Auditors last Jan. 15.
This designation is awarded to audit professionals who meet the strict requirements of the institute’s certified internal auditor program, with a four-part examination that includes high standards for character, education and experience.
Mendiola, who is from Rota, is a graduate of the University of Hawaii with double majors in Finance and Marketing. She joined OPA in May 2002 and, since then, took part in several OPA training programs that include a Performance Auditing workshop sponsored by the South Pacific Association of Supreme Audit Institutions in Apia, Samoa. While there, she also got a certification on Performance Audit. The SPASAI workshop was funded through grants from the Asian Development Bank and the United Nations.
Public Auditor Mike Sablan lauded Mendiola for her dedication and discipline. “The CIA designation enhances Kimberly’s professional credibility in the eyes of the public—here in the Commonwealth, in the rest of the United States and internationally,” said Sablan. He said that credibility is crucial to earning the public’s respect of audit professionals.
Sablan praised Mendiola for being the CNMI’s first Certified Internal Auditor and said this also brings great pride to Mendiola’s family and friends, and to OPA. (Marconi Calindas)
