NMI Museum clarifies admission charges
Exhibit curator Noel B. Quitugua clarified yesterday that the CNMI Museum of History and Culture charges $3 as admission per person, contrary to the mistaken impression by some visitors, particularly tourists, who think admission is free.
Quitugua said that a lot of visitors who want to look at historical items that can be only found at the museum commonly make that mistake.
He said the fee is used for the maintenance of the museum.
When the exhibit entitled “The Influence of Catholicism in the Marianas” opened last Jan. 13, admission was free during the opening day but for succeeding days, the museum charges its regular fee of $3.
The exhibit will run until March 2005. The exhibit features the 20th year Episcopal anniversary of Bishop Tomas A. Camacho. The exhibit highlights Catholicism, the prevailing religion on the island from the Spanish era up to the present.
The exhibit gathered old and rare photographs extracted from books, and a collage of matte illustrations with informational text copies to depict the existence of Catholicism on Saipan. The museum also features antiques such as candle holders, altar lamps, bells, and basins, some of which were provided by the church.
