The Filipino-American Tennis Association will elect a successor to outgoing president Elias Buenavantura tomorrow night at the Jade Garden Restaurant along Beach Road in Garapan.

Buenaventura earlier said he would not seek reelection, preferring instead to hand over the reins of FILATA to a younger group of officers.

It turned out, events of the past two months would have given Buenaventura no choice but to give up the leadership of the Commonwealth’s oldest tennis club, as he was elected president of the Northern Mariana Islands Tennis Association last December.

NMITA is in charge of national tennis development for the entire Commonwealth.

FILATA outgoing secretary Joy Minor said the elections would be held after dinner, which starts 6:3-pm at the Chinese restaurant. She also said all FILATA members who paid their 2004 dues are eligible to vote.

Aside from Buenaventura and Minor, outgoing officers of FILATA include vice president Joe Motto, Sr., treasurer Gina Lopez, public relations officer Edwin Maratas, and auditor Marlon Estigoy.

Also up for election are eight board member seats. Last year, the FILATA board was composed of Chuck Sayon, Dr. Mohammad Ashraf, Dino Jones, Kazumi Imai, Art Lopez, Hector Gutierrez, Manny Po, and Alex Martin.
