Accident causes water shortage on Capitol Hill
Residents living in the areas of Capitol Hill, Wireless and all the way in toward the Magellan Club will be experiencing shortages in their water supply until this Thursday due to an accident that has affected the water wells in the area.
The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. said that a traffic accident occurred in the Capitol Hill area on Feb. 12, 2005, at 3am that resulted in series of problems.
“A car hit a power pole. The pole ignited in flames, and the electrical systems burned that morning. The fire took out the electrical system for three of the Capitol Hill water wells. The pumps could not bring water up and through the Capitol Hill area. This resulted in low water pressure and water has not been flowing fulltime,” the agency said in a statement.
Because of this water situation, CUC’s water division said that the water service hours for the areas affected are now from 6am to 1pm daily for customers living on higher ground areas, and a little longer for those living on lower areas.
“Normally, the water division shares Capitol Hill water with Garapan. There is not enough water to go to Garapan until the Capitol Hill system is fixed,” CUC said.
CUC anticipates fixing the problem by Feb. 17, 2005, and to have the normal water service operations by the Feb. 18, 2005. (PR)
