‘Fun Day’ for parents, community members
Weekends are never more relaxing and enjoyable for families as it was yesterday at the Garapan Fishing Base. Families enjoyed a whole day of fun and games plus entertainment during the “Family Fun Day,” a fair for the families and the members of the community.
The activity was part of the monthlong celebration of “Parents Leadership Month,” with this year’s theme “Family Strengthening Through Parent Leadership.”
Parents brought their children so they could play on mounted inflatable jumpers, watch programs or simply visit various booths organized by local non-profit organizations and schools.
Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Juan L. Babauta said he was very happy with the large turnout for the event and believes that this kind of activity helps enhance the foundation of the roles of parents in their homes.
The fair also had skit presentations from Kagman Elementary School, Grace Christian Academy, San Vicente Elementary School, Dan Dan Elementary School and Marianas High School.
A mini-boy band group called the “Naughty Boys” serenaded the crowd with cuts from their upcoming album, while cultural performers Tausala Ole Pasefika, Penino-Ole-Vasa and Teka Nahao Nui Dancers performed dance numbers. Divana Dela Cruz hosted the whole-day program.
Parent leadership is an essential and effective means of strengthening families and preventing child abuse and neglect. The program was created to recognize the extraordinary courage and determination of parents who make efforts to improve the conditions and the relationship within their families as well as the community.
