The Marpi area will be closed to the public tomorrow afternoon to ensure public safety during a scheduled detonation of World War II ordnance at the nearby Laderan Laggun Cliff Line.

Marpi’s temporary closure will be from 1pm to 5pm. The Emergency Management Office said that detonation operations would begin by 3pm. The EMO, Department of Public Safety and the U.S. Navy’s Explosives Ordnance Disposal Unit will jointly conduct the operations.

“The only area that will not be closed off will be Suicide Cliff. General public access to Suicide Cliff is allowed only at the road leading up to the Far East Broadcasting antenna into Suicide Cliff,” the EMO said in a public advisory.

The EMO said that DPS would set up security posts to regulate traffic.
