A dead person was found yesterday at the beach behind the Department of Public Works in Lower Base, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Speaking at the site of the discovery, police spokesman Eric F. David disclosed yesterday that a call reporting the dead person was received through DPS 911 at about 11:30am.

Responding officers found the body of an Asian woman and immediately secured the site for investigation.

David declined to state whether there were any signs of foul play or if the woman died of natural causes, saying that investigation is still ongoing. He also would not comment on whether the body washed up from the sea or if it was left there.

The identity of the woman was not disclosed, pending completion of the preliminary investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. He affirmed, though, that the body was that of an Asian woman.

David said the woman’s body was pronounced dead by Dr. Robin Shear of the Commonwealth Health Center and reports indicate an autopsy will be performed tonight. The woman’s body was brought to the CHC morgue.
