Dead Chinese woman case classified as suicide
The case of the Chinese woman found dead at the beach side behind the Department of Public Works in Lower Base Thursday morning has been classified as suicide, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Police spokesman Eric F. David disclosed yesterday that the report from the autopsy conducted Friday night by Dr. Aurelio Espinola, chief medical examiner from Guam, show that the victim, 23-year-old Huixia Yang of Hong Kong, had died from drowning.
David said the report also indicated that bruises found on the woman’s face when found were caused by fish and crabs. The body is believed to have been in the ocean for about 12 hours.
Other details of the case remain unknown, David said, but foul play has already been ruled out.
“Our investigators are still concluding their investigation as to what led her to be at the beach side or why she committed suicide,” he said.
David said the woman has no family members on island. He said her family in China has been notified of her death.
Meanwhile, DPS is still looking for the red Toyota Tacoma pickup truck seen at the site shortly before the body was reported to the department.
“We actually want the driver to come in so we can do process of elimination. We still are looking for the pickup; we’ll like to have the person come in for interview so we can get him out of the way,” David said.
Four local youths told police during the investigation that they were walking along the beach when they came upon the body. They ran to the Department of Fish and Wildlife Office, and as they were running away from the body, they noticed the red pickup truck right behind them. When they entered the DFW premises, the truck made a left turn and sped off, heading north. The four failed to get the vehicle’s plate number.
The woman was employed as a hand sewer for Concorde Garment Manufacturing, Inc. She was found all wet and fully clothed. David said the high tide early Thursday may have resulted in the woman’s drenched condition.
Concorde reported a missing person to DPS last March 9 and DPS immediately sent one police officer to the Concorde office at 11:30pm to entertain the report.
