The Ol’Aces team of the Junior League used a combination of clutch hitting and solid pitching to even their record to 1-1 on Sunday morning when they scuttled the Pirates’ offensive plans with a 6-0 swashbuckling win at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.

Starting pitcher Tony Rogolifoi went four innings for Ol’Aces without allowing a run, fanned a pair, and surrendered a pair of hits, while reliever Isaiah Wabol cleaned up without a hit or a run.

Wabol went 1-for-2 on the other side of the ball with a walk and two runs scored, but shortstop Ryan Ada led the way for Ol’Aces’ offense with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with two singles, two runs scored, and a run batted in.

Catcher Ben Taisican also added to the run total by singling in a runner before crossing the plate himself.

While A.J. Dela Cruz took the loss atop the mound for the Pirates, the hurler went the distance allowing six runs off of five hits with eight strikeouts. Unfortunately the ace’s efforts went without any run support.

LITTLE LEAGUE

VFW PATRIOTS 3, PIRATES 13

Jonathan Camacho spread out three runs and five hits throughout five solid innings to get last season’s champions their first win of the season over the VFW Patriots in a 10-run, mercy-rule shortened contest on Sunday morning at the Oleai Sports Complex.

Camacho allowed a run in the top of the second and a pair in the top of the fifth inning, but he received plenty of help from the Pirates’ guns to end the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Brandon Aulerio went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and two ribbies to lead the charges for the Pirates, while Joseph Palacios was a perfect 2-for-2 for the Patriots in a losing effort.

DAN DAN BLUE JAYS 13, AS MATUIS TWINS 2

The hot hitting of slugger Eric Tenorio was not enough for the Twins to notch their third win of the season, as first-year player Ike Agulto continued his explosive rookie season with a 2-for-3 outing for the Blue Jays in an 11-run romp.

Agulto returned to “Tan Ge” field with a single, a double, and a run batted in to help the Jays soar past the Twins into first place with their second win of the season. Santiago Tenorio went the distance for the Jays in the mercy-shortened game allowing just two runs off of five hits in five innings. The pitcher fanned two while on the mound, and went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a pair of runs batted in as well.

The Twins’ Tenorio continued his quest for the batting title on Sunday, albeit in a losing effort, when the slugger hit a homerun, a double, and a single en route to a perfect 3-for-3 day. Teammate Anthony Salas went 1-for-2 with a pair of ribbies.

KAGMAN 1-2-3 5, TANAPAG BRAVES 4

The Braves squandered a pair of opportunities to take the lead late in the game against Kagman when they failed to convert six base runners into runs scored in the final two innings. In one of the most exciting games of the day, the Braves twice let bases loaded situations slip through their fingers, in part due to the quality pitching from Kagman starting pitcher Ignacio Benavente and reliever James Lizama.

Benavente allowed three runs off of six hits in five innings of work, while Lizama picked up a save by holding the Braves to one run in the bottom of the sixth.

OL’ ACES 21, TOYOTA MATRIX 4

After leading off the top of the first inning with three runs scored, the Ol’ Aces went Anatahan in the top of the second when they erupted for 13 runs to put a glitch in the plans of the Toyota Matrix.

Slugger Mike Iguel went 2-for-2 with five runs batted in for the Ol’ Aces with a double and a single, while teammate Joel Kaipat went 3-for-4 with a pair of singles, a double, and three runs batted in the four inning mercy-shortened game.
