KING OF THE DIAMONDS EXTENDS ENTRY FEE DEADLINE

Team interested in joining the King of the Diamonds Softball Tournament set for this weekend have until 6pm tonight to pay the $200 entrance fee.
The tourney is being organized by the Belau Amateur Softball Association and sponsored by Marpac Distributors Inc. and will be played strating tomorrow, March 19, and continues Sunday, March 20, at the Dan Dan Community Softball Field.

According to BSA this is the first of a set of three tournaments offering bragging rights and a trip to Palau for the King of the Diamond Softball Tournament against the best of Guam and Palau.

Organizers said that both the waiver and roster forms must be signed and completed before start of the tournament. Due to the rules of the American Softball Association, and players are advised that low compression/restricted flight softballs will be used, and that all bat’s with a rating of 100 and above will be restricted from play.

JAM ATTACK RETURNS TOMORROW

The Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association will be hosting the 15th Annual Jam Attack stating tomorrow at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

According to NMIVA there have been a number of local men’s and women’s teams that have signed for the tournament to compliment a delegation of six teams from Guam.

Organizers are also hoping that teams from Tinian and Rota return to Saipan for the event.

The indoor war on the floor has been held in January in previous years, but due to the recent takeover of the local volleyball scene by NMIVA, organizers pushed it back to March.

COMMONWEALTH-WIDE RED CROSS WALKATHON TOMORROW

The Northern Mariana Islands Chapter of the American Red Cross would stage its 19th Annual ARC Walkathon tomorrow on Saipan, Rota and Tinian.

The 10-kilometer event will begin at sunrise on each island and everyone who raises $15 will receive a free walkathon T-shirt. There will also be prizes awarded to schools, business and individuals who raise the most money for the Red Cross.

Those interested can also call the chapter office at 234-3459. Businesses that are interested in co-sponsoring the event are also encouraged to call.

HANMI CHARITY GOLF TOURNEY ON APRIL 2

The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands will host the 4th Charity Golf Tournament on April 2, 2005 at Coral Ocean Point Resort golf course.

Showtime is set at 10:30am and shotgun starts at noon.

Prizes up for grabs include roundtrip tickets to Japan, Manila, Korea, Australia and the U.S. mainland courtesy of Asiana Airlines, Continental Airlines, Japan Airlines and Northwest Airlines. Spanking new 2005 Toyota Rav 4 and 2005 Mazda3 as well as cash prizes also await hole-in-one winners.

Entry forms are available at COP, Marianas Country Club, and all HANMI member companies.

Handicap for the Championship Flight is 0 to 5; handicap for the A Flight is 6 to 10; handicap for the B Flight is 11 to 16; and handicap for the C Flight is 17 and over.
