Manny Gregory Castro, son of Diego and Kathy Tenorio Castro, was selected to participate in the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. from March 15 to 20, 2005.

NYLC is a unique leadership development program for high school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and scholastic merit.

Castro is one of approximately 400 outstanding scholars from around the country at the conference.

The theme of NYLC is “The Leaders of Tomorrow Meeting the Leaders of Today.” Throughout the six days, Castro will interact with a variety of personnel who operate within the three branches of government, the news media and the international community.

Washington Rep. Pete A. Tenorio met Castro upon his arrival in Washington, D.C. Castro is the grandson of Tenorio’s brother, former Rep. Manny “Brown” Tenorio.

“I am so proud of Manny Gregory that he was selected from among the many outstanding students throughout the US,” said Tenorio. “He is a fantastic example of what our young people are accomplishing today and I have renewed hope in the future of our islands as I look at this highly motivated and intellectual individual.”

Complementing a schedule of special meetings and briefings, Castro will participate in a number of leadership-building activities and simulations. He will depart D.C. on March 20 to return to Gresham, Oregon where he is a senior in high school.

After graduation, he plans to continue his education in Oregon, starting out at a community college then on to Oregon State University.
