Ballers crossover for Mini Games
Amidst the rush to raise funds for the 2005 South Pacific Mini Games this summer, the CNMI Baseball team will be hosting a softball tournament next month to help them close the gap between Saipan and Palau.
According to CNMI All-Star Joey Dela Cruz, the team has put together the inaugural SPG Softball Tournament to benefit the national team from Friday, April 29 through Sunday, May 1, in order to put the finishing touches on their fund raising campaign.
The tournament will be limited to the first 12 teams that show their support for the all-stars by submitting their $200 entry fee. Aside from the thrill of playing for the cash and prizes associated with a first place finish, players will also be able to take part in the homerun derby and pitching accuracy competition for an additional $20 per person per event.
Dela Cruz didn’t release all of the details of the prizes, but said that it will be available soon. While the team is hoping to raise all of the necessary funds through a number of planned activities, Dela Cruz said that the community doesn’t have to play to support the team.
“We appreciate any support to help us on our way, and you don’t only have to enter a team to help us out,” he said.
