Bwibwi bounced back from their loss the previous day to beat Mwaliyas in o-kon, 48-44, Friday afternoon at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

After losing the first set, 8-12, Bwibwi picked up the intensity of their play and dominated the second set, 11-1, to take a 19-13 lead in the overall tally.

Mwaliyas came storming back, putting up a brick wall at the net and making the Bwibwis work harder for every point. They showed the opposition that they weren’t ready to go away and took the set, 12-7, to cut the overall deficit to a point, 25-26.

Mwaliyas continued to pound away behind the guns of Jeremy Winkfield and Pedro Iguel and kept their hopes alive by squeezing past Bwibwi in the fourth set, 11-10, to knot the score at 36 apiece and force o-kon—Rocball term for overtime.

Bwibwi had their chances of closing the match in regulation, holding two match points but failed to convert on first serve twice that enabled Mwaliyas to creep ahead in the set.

With momentum in their corner, Mwaliyas took control of the extra set, going up 7-3 highlighted with monstrous kills by Winkfield and Iguel.

But Bwibwi refused to give in and with a little help from their opponents—two first serve mishaps by Mwaliyas—recorded their third win of the season.

Shane Yamada led Bwibwi and finished as the game’s heavy hitter with 14 points on two aces and five kees while Winkfield led Mwaliyas with eights points on an ace and three kees.

Bwibwi was not as fortunate the day before, losing to Ochobu 35-45.

Bwibwi fell into trouble early, losing the first set 4-12. They took the second set, 12-8, to close the gap and put up a good fight in the third set before falling short, 9-11.

Ochobu then iced the victory with a 14-10 fourth set win.

Julius Saito had a kee and two goals for seven points to lead Ochobu. His effort also earned him the heavy hitter title for the day.

Yamada had six points courtesy of two aces and a kee to lead Bwibwi.
