The Department of Public Health yesterday started inspecting houses in Garapan that could harbor mosquitoes and rodents.

Acting deputy secretary Margarita Torres Aldan ordered inspectors under the Bureau of Environmental Health to check residential homes and commercial buildings in the famed tourist district beginning yesterday until April 12.

The order said that houses and commercial establishments along the Puntan Mutchot Hotel Street would be checked for mosquitoes and rat dwellings.

Aldan asked residents, tenants, and operators in the area to leash their dogs to prevent harm to inspectors. The health inspectors will don their gray shirt uniforms and would be bearing identification badges with their photos.

She said the project hopes to help the public by collecting, removing, and disposing all artificial breeding sites of mosquitoes and rats. The breeding sites could come in the form of empty cans, used tires, and idle and abandoned vehicles.

Aldan said the inspections are in line with Public Law 12-48, 2123 (a) (12), which seeks to prevent diseases that are transmitted by mosquitoes and rodents. For more information, contact the Environmental Health office at 664-4870 or 72.
