Council lauds David R. Jones
The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council has adopted a resolution congratulating David R. Jones for being the first person of Northern Marianas descent to earn the rank of Executive Chef at Hyatt Regency Saipan.
Jones was born on July 10, 1960, and is the son of late proud parents Juan Sn. and Nerim R. Jones of San Roque, Saipan. He is married to Del and the two have a daughter, Joan.
Jones attended Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School and graduated at Marianas High School. He attended Hawaii Culinary Training Center, 1979-1980, and graduated at National Maritime Union Culinary Arts Training Center, 1980-1981. He completed total quality management, lifestyle managements, interview and counseling management, and communication I and II.
Jones’ skills and accomplishments included being Special Speaker for Tourism at Marianas High School every year; Representative for Marianas High School for Special Projects; five-year Loyalty Service Special Award, Hyatt Regency Saipan; 10-year Loyalty Service Special Award, Hyatt Regency Saipan; Silver Metal-Chamorro Food Special Award, Culinary Arts Food Competition, Guam, USA; Gold Metal-Chamorro Food Special Award, Culinary Arts Competition, Saipan, CNMI; Silver Metal-Fruit Carving Special Award, Culinary Arts Food Competition, Saipan, CNMI; 1st runner up, 1995 Employee Tennis Tournament, single.
Jones’ work experience included being a bus boy, Continental Hotel, Saipan; waiter, Continental Hotel, Saipan; bar boy, Continental Hotel, Saipan; bartender, Continental Hotel, Saipan; cook, Red & White Fleet, Fisherman’s Wharf, San Francisco, California; cook III, Hyatt Regency Saipan; cook II, Hyatt Regency Saipan; Cook I, Hyatt Regency Saipan; Chef De Partie, Hyatt Regency Saipan; Assistant Sous Chef, Hyatt Regency Saipan; Sous Chef, Hyatt Regency Saipan; and is presently the Executive Chef of the Hyatt Regency Saipan.
“The members of the municipal council and the people of the CNMI join the Hyatt Regency Saipan and the proud family members of [Jones] in congratulating and commending him for his strong commitment and determination to render exemplary contributions and services that enabled him to perform exceptionally well through the ranks that ended at the top as Executive Chef at Hyatt Regency Saipan,” part of the resolution reads.
The resolution was certified by municipal council chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
