Formal dedication of airport’s new name set
The Commonwealth Ports Authority will hold a dedication ceremony for the Saipan International Airport on March 31.
At the ceremony, the airport will be formally named the “Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport” after the CNMI’s first lieutenant governor who pioneered the development of the facility.
CPA will host a reception, during which a permanent bronze plate bearing the new name will be inscribed on the airport building.
The dedication comes pursuant to Saipan Local Law 13-10, signed by Gov. Juan N. Babauta on Oct. 14, 2002.
The law recognizes former Lt. Governor Ada’s pioneering efforts to modernize the Saipan airport.
“There is no doubt that due to the Honorable Francisco C. Ada’s tireless contributions in the planning, development and completion of the Saipan International Airport, the Commonwealth’s economic future was forever transformed,” Babauta said in signing the act.
He added: “As noted by the Third Senatorial District, the former Trust Territory District Administrator’s bold vision and energy were also pivotal in the establishment of the Mariana Islands Airport Authority, the predecessor of the Commonwealth Ports Authority, as a public corporation directly responsible for the management of the airport.”
